FAQ’s
Are you a qualified and experienced counsellor and therapist?
Yes. Amongst my qualifications I have a L5 diploma in sex addiction counselling, a post graduate diploma in CBT and a certificate in couples counselling. I have over 20 years counselling experience.
Do you belong to a professional body?
Yes. I am an accredited member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP), a member of the Association for the Treatment of Sexual Addiction and Compulsivity (ATSAC) and a professional associate of the College of Sexual and Relationship Therapists (COSRT).
How much does it cost?
My fee for individuals is £65 for a 50-minute session and £80 for couples for 75 minutes.
What is your cancellation policy?
Sessions that are cancelled with less than 48 hours’ notice are chargeable in full unless there are extenuating circumstances.
When do I pay?
In order to hold the session, I ask for payment for the assessment appointment after we have agreed when this is going to be. Thereafter payment is made before the start of each session.
How long will I need to come for?
A client will typically come for sex or pornography addiction for between 12 and 20 sessions.
It is not possible to give a precise number as this depends on the issues you are exploring and how we choose to work.
How long is each session?
Sessions for individuals last for 50 minutes and for couples each session lasts for 75 minutes.
How frequently will I need to come?
It is helpful to meet weekly where possible especially at the beginning of the therapy.
Are the sessions confidential?
Yes. Our sessions are held in a room that affords complete privacy. I do make brief notes about our sessions and I follow the guidelines of my professional bodies in the way those notes are stored.
When do I need to come for counselling?
Sex addiction is a compulsive, unhealthy relationship with any sexual activity that feels out of control and is causing problems in your life or in that of someone close to you. You may not have managed to stop your behaviour or to have stayed stopped. If you can identify with this then perhaps it is the time for you to seek help. I can appreciate what a massive and courageous step it is to come for your first counselling session and I aim to make your experience as comfortable as possible for you.
Can counselling really help me?
Yes. Having the relationship with your therapist as well as the key factors of being open and honest will help you in making progress to overcome your difficulties.
Will I need to do any work outside the sessions?
There are times when you may be asked to do short tasks between your sessions.
